Good morning!
Today I have a variation on the die-cut ornaments that are so very prevalent these days. I've done a few of those myself but when I was playing around with them I tried my hand at using an older stamp set and punch to see if I could get a similar looking ornament. I had to improvise a bit for the center sections because the stamp set that I used (Elegant Ornaments) doesn't have all the different shapes and sizes to work with. For mine, I substituted an oval punch and a simple starburst stamp. I also added some texture with an embossing folder and of course, that little dusting of glitter to make it all shimmer.
I used Old Olive and Rose Red to stamp the ornaments and starbursts then punched out all the pieces. 5 Old Olive and 15 Rose Red snowflake ornaments and 5 Rose Red starbursts for the center oval pieces. The remaining15 ovals were simply punched and folder embossed so they would have texture. I did not emboss the stamped ovals.
Assembly requires scoring 10 of the Rose Red ornaments and all 5 Old Olive down the middle and gluing them together in 5 groups of 4 ornaments with the un-scored ornaments forming the back pieces. This process is repeated with the ovals, ensuring that the Old Olive ornaments and the starbursts show up on top of each assembled piece. A scallop circle provides a base to glue everything together, a liberal dusting of glitter on all of the edges and a pretty olive button and a chunky crystal gem in the center finish it all off. I also added a bit of gold cord at the top to hang the ornament on the tree or tie to a package.
Thanks for stopping by today! Happy Wednesday!
