Springy Birthday Fun

Good morning!

I hope you all had a great weekend.
Our weather has been simply glorious here lately and we are all feeling blessed to have it to enjoy. Especially in March! I spent part of my day yesterday just sitting on my deck soaking up the warm breeze and sunshine. There's just something so nice about opening all the windows and doors for the first time this year and letting the fresh air in. Bliss!

In keeping with all that Springtime goodness, I've got another fun birthday post to share today. This card is one I did at the retreat I  went to in February. The idea came from a card that my pal Twyla had pinned on her Pinterest board but I adapted it a little to suit my own style.

My card base is a half sheet of Regal Rose. The front is layered with two panels of coordinating DP from My Mind's Eye Happy Go Lucky 6x6 collection. Next, I layered together rectangles of four more prints from the same paper pack to make the packages.
The larger of the two was adhered to the card with a strip of a green plaid print over the top and the other was tied with narrow organdy ribbon and popped up on foam dimensionals. A couple of flower buttons finish off the card front.

For the inside, I started with a 5.25 x 8 piece of Neenah Solar White folded in half.
To create the 3D packages, I cut 4 slits in the fold and then reversed their folds so that they would pop out of the card.

To do this yourself, measure approximately 3/4 inch up from the top and bottom of your insert piece and make pencil marks. Then, from the top mark, measure down about 1/2 inch and make another small mark. Repeat from the bottom mark, measuring up about 1 inch. NOTE: These are approximate measurements. You can make your packages any height you would like. I just guestimated mine.
Next, you need to cut the slits for the packages. You only cut 4 times but your cuts should be in graduated lengths so that your packages look like they are different sizes. So...my bottom two cuts are about 1 inch out from the fold. The next one is about 3/4 inch out from the fold, and the top is about 1/2 inch out from the fold.
Finally, before you start pressing your folds out, line up the ends of your cuts with the cutting channel on your paper cutter and SCORE (DO NOT CUT) between your cuts. This will help them fold straight up and down.
Press your folds accordian style so that your packages pop out and the section at the top and bottom fold in. Apply adhesive to all of the edges and then tuck and press the insert into the fold of the base card.

On to the decorating!!
Your DP pieces for the inside packages will vary depending on how large or small you made each one, so measure each one and cut DP to fit. For a little extra interest, I also tied a bit of the same thin organdy ribbon around the top box so it would have a bow.

The Curvy Verses sentiment is stamped in Chocolate Chip to the right of the packages.

Thanks as always for stopping in today!
